The big game is coming up in a few days!  Here are some cocktails to honor the teams and their host cities.

Kansas City Ice Water
1.5 oz vodka
1.5 oz gin
1 can 7-Up

Pour all ingredients over ice in a tall glass.   Also tastes yummy when disguised in a red dixie cup.

One shot of whiskey and a beer

Philly lore is that the Citywide Special started at Bob and Barbara’s on South St in Philly where “The Special” was Beam and PBR for $3.

Hail To The Chiefs
1.5 oz Crown Royal Apple
4 oz cranberry juice
splash of grenadine
lemon twist

Pour all ingredients over ice and stir.

Hail To The Chiefs
1.5 oz vodka
.5 oz blue curacao
pineapple juice

Pour all ingredients over ice and stir. Experiment with the amount of juice to get the color just right.

Adventures With SuperBroad At Texas Frightmare Weekend

Screening

Last weekend I headed to Texas with Superbroad to check out the Texas Frightmare Weekend movie festival & convention.     Texas Frightmare Weekend is a horror movie convention.   Horror movies are really Christa’s jam, but I am a general movie-buff so I was also super stoked to meet the guests and enjoy the general weirdness.    Read on for some photos and commentary.

After an early start filled with mishaps, we landed in Dallas and arrived out our hotel.  We were early so had some time to kill.  The last time I had a Shiner Bock in Texas was Spring Break 1993!   Continuing the gastro-fun, we headed across the street for our first ever Whataburger.   This place is a Texas fixture and did NOT disappoint!

We took a few minutes to chill, then headed over to the convention hotel.   This was the 14th Texas Frightmare Weekend and it was immediately obvious even to first-timers that the event is started to outgrow the Hyatt Regency DFW.  As Floridians and theme-park visitors, we didn’t mind the lines so much.  But the sheer number of people essentially hanging out in the basement of the hotel was shocking.   Of course, the best part of waiting in line was checking out the costumes!

We had a great time people-watching and meeting some movie icons over the weekend!

Posing with Traci Lords

The great Traci Lords

Joe Bob Briggs

Joe Bob Briggs of Monster Vision & The Last Drive-In.  He even had a funny anecdote about Daytona Beach!

Tim Curry

Posing with Felissa Rose

Felissa Rose, most well known as Angela in Sleepaway Camp!

Amanda Wyss

Amanda Wyss from Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Better Off Dead, and Nightmare on Elm Street.

Barbara Crampton

Ahhhhh! Barbara Crampton from Re-Animator!

Heather Langenkamp and Robert Englund

We were absolutely giddy to meet Heather Langenkamp and Robert Englund from Nightmare On Elm Street!

We were such nerdy first-timers, but had a great time.  Lots of merch, autographs, Whataburger,  and photos.   10/10 would do again!

My Cigar Lounge Adventure is Two Years Old! Celebrate With Me In Palm Coast!

Out with the old, in with the new! (July 2013)

Hard to believe, but it has been TWO YEARS since I joined Ky Ekinci in a new venture.   With literally no cigar experience, I jumped in  to The Humidor with both feet in mid-July 2013.   After a few days of “undercover boss”, I announced to the world that I was actually the new boss.  It was a scary and invigorating time.   Who I am fooling, it is still a little scary.   Not only am I banking on the success of this venture, but I also have four employees who depend (each in different degrees) on the success of this venture for income.  No pressure or anything.   But, I have a great partner and team helping me along the way.

We will be celebrating for three days in Palm Coast this week!  Won’t you join the party?

We’ve greatly expanded the beer selection since Fall of 2013

On Thursday we will be hosting a cigar & wine social featuring Cordoba & Morales handmade cigars.  Our cigar “socials” have become a vital part of the operation as a means of introducing new cigars to our guests and bringing new guests in for the first time.    Read more here and RSVP!

Friday we will be hosting our annual Black Friday In July event.  Great deals and live music from 5pm-10pm.  Don’t miss it!

We continue the celebration on Saturday with great beers from Anderson Valley Brewing.  Love music from Brad Griese 8-11!

Please make plans to come out for one or all of the events later this week.   I want to thank you personally for supporting me, my partners, and my staff for two years!!

Love,

Tiki

PS Also worth noting is the Humidor’s 10 Year Anniversary coming up October 1.   Click over to Facebook for more info about this milestone.

Repeal Day Is Here! Justice Is Served.

I have been recognizing Repeal Day for years.  It seems like it is finally catching on and I have a great new venue at which to celebrate.  Join us at The Humidor Club & Lounge tonight as we celebrate our constitutional right to have a drink!

The 21st Amendment, ratified on December 5th 1933, put an end to Prohibition in the US and gave every citizen of legal age the constitutional right to have a drink. Join the nationwide celebration of the repeal of prohibition with us. Featured beer of the event will be Batch 19 Pre-Prohibition Style Lager.

Another Fictional Character Based On TikiTender?

Just finished “Kokomo’s Cafe“, the first in a new series by Armand Rosamilia, based in Flagler Beach.   This Andrew “Woody” Woodson seems like a familiar character.

“Woody seemed to know everyone in Kokomo’s Café, nodding and acknowledging everyone by name. He was the main bartender at the Golden Lion, having run the tiki bar for the past six years. Woody knew everyone in town, and everyone knew him. He was the local celebrity, with his quick smile and flirty attitude toward anything female. Woody played the part and he played it well. Mac thought it must be exhausting to have to play the part twenty-four-seven. You couldn’t step outside your front door without having to play a character, a bigger than life version of who you really were.”

Yes, another character based on the persona of “TikiTender”.   Looking forward to seeing what sort of mis-adventures I (he) gets into in the rest of the series!

Armand Rosamilia is a local author who mainly writes zombie fiction.  You might recall the character “Tiki” in Dying Days: The Siege Of European Village earlier this year.  He has observed so many characters while writing in Flagler Beach, he decided to start the Flagler Beach Fiction series.   Check him out!
