Drink Recipe: Brandy Alexander

Saturday was National Brandy Alexander Day and this concoction of brandy, creme de cacao, heavy cream (or sometimes ice cream) has been an inspirational beverage since it was first created in 1922.

I can’t believe I missed the “holiday”!

Brandy Alexander
1 1/2 oz brandy
1 oz dark creme de cacao
1 oz half-and-half
1/4 tsp grated nutmeg

In a shaker half-filled with ice cubes, combine the brandy, creme de cacao, and half-and-half. Shake well. Strain into a cocktail glass and sprinkle with the nutmeg.

Drink Recipe: Angela’s Cantaloupe Martini

Angela’s Cantaloupe Martini
1 oz Absolut® Mandrin vodka
2 oz watermelon liqueur
2 oz orange juice
Combine all ingredients in an ice filled shaker. Shake shake shake! Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Also tasty over ice.

Full Moon Weekend!

Tonight’s full moon will be the biggest and brightest full moon of the year. It offers anyone with clear skies an opportunity to identify easy-to-see features on the moon. As a bonus, Mars will be just to the left of the moon tonight. Look for the reddish, star-like object. Check out the view from our ocean deck while listening to some great tunes by Billy Bowers & Joe Atti. Saturday night we will host our nearly world-famous Full Moon Party! Time to dust off those grass skirts and limbo!

Need a name for this cocktail

Sitting around after pizza and Idol (on DVR) with TikiWife and figured I would whip up a tasty cocktail using what I had on hand. I gathered up some supplies: Ron Barcelo Dominican rum, an orange, some fresh mint, and some almond extract. Setting my glass aside to chill I tossed the following into a mixing glass:

2 oz Ron Barcelo

3 orange wedges worth of juice

1/2 tsp almond extract

I gave the ingredients a stir then poured them into my glass, ice and all. For garnish I squeezed and dropped in another lime wedge and a sprig of mint.

The initial taste was full of almond so I squeezed in the other half of orange.

I am sipping on the result. While tasty it still needs a little less almond and maybe some bitters.

So my final recipe for the Thursday Night Cocktail Experiment is as follows.

2 oz Ron Barcelo

1 orange, juiced (reserving a wedge for garnish)

1/4 tsp almond extract

Sprig of mint

Dash of bitters (optional)

Aloha nui loa!

Drink Recipe: Tiki Girl

Tiki Girl
1 1/2 oz rum
1 oz amaretto
Orange Juice
Pineapple juice
splash grenadine

Pour all ingredients except grenadine into a large glass filled with ice. Shake well and drizzle with grenadine.
