Every now and then, someone takes a seat at my bar and I know instantly that we will be friends. It happened on Thursday, while working the 4pm shift in stifling heat and humidity. To say she stood out of the usual early Thursday evening crowd would be under stating it. Bountiful curves, striking eyes, bronzed skin, and a head full of dreadlocks certainly drew my attention.
After some conversation, I learned that Rhonda is a writer, an artist, and a poet based out of Siesta Key. Of particular interest to me and to my readers is her tiki bar & mermaid art. Check her out and order some fun tiki bar signs at www.rhondakwrites.com. You will find groovy art to decorate your back deck, tiki bar etc. Plus a great story of perserverance.
Click the photo. Visit her store.
Go meet RhondaK, she is a cool and beautiful person!
As always, thanks for reading.
Aloha nui loa!!

Here is my take on the Classic Planter’s Punch. I must warn you. If you order a Planter’s Punch at most bars today (including the Golden Lion), you will receive something similar in base, but muddied with a consortium of juices. Pineapple is really the only acceptable juice to be added, in my opinion.
Tiki’s Planter’s Punch
2 oz Myers’s® dark Jamaican rum
Juice of 1 lime
Juice of 1/2 lemon
1/2 oz grenadine
1/2 tsp sugar
dash Angostura bitters
Shake with ice and strain into a tall glass with crushed ice. Add an ounce or two of soda water if you like and stir. Garnish with a wedge of pineapple, an orange slice, and a cherry if you are feeling festive.
